Here we are about to start week Six of school!!! My dearest children have been loving it, but i have had some recent revelations that will change the next couple of weeks, and we will see how it works out.
My kindergartner Loves doing her worksheets, LOVE math and is so super excited about rhyming words and beginning sounds, she points them out all day long!!! My pre-preschooler really like to make a mess, color work sheets, and watch his sister do school! The baby kinda hates every thing about every thing right now, and thinks that he is way to cool for school!

Mommy really loves creative writing and art. For most subjects we stick to the lesson plan, or trudge our way through the assignments with as much enthusiasm as if i were gardening. Then we get to writing and Kindergarten girl gets excited, so i get excited and i let her go as far as she wants to go... and she has quite an active imagination so it is really fun.
Then the day winds down and we take on Art: This assignment said very vaguely, "make a mobile"
Two days later we ended up with a fairly LARGE mobile!!! I think it is too big and needs some tweaking but its a mobile none the less (its like two mobiles in one)
This project was to make a "Me book"
it said to punch holes in some paper and tie string... but we took this opportunity to learn a bit about book binding basics
After they finished sewing up there books they decorated them with buttons and yarn, and wrote about "my favorite____" on each page.... she really really love it!!!
This baking project was first listed for the preschooler, and i put it off a week for the same project in the kindergarten lessons... we read "The gingerbread man" (the preschool story ended differently than the kindergarten rendition did, interesting) then we made our own gingerbread men
YUMMY!!! Ginger bread dough was kinda a long process so it was after dinner before we could roll em out and bake em up... i am glad to say that when we opened the oven, our cookies did not sit up nor did they run away.
That Friday at the park, we went exploring on bikes, and the kids were saying "run run as fast as you can, you cant catch me I'm the gingerbread man" and it was so cute
This was for a science lesson. We are learning about our 5 senses, and this particular day was on Touch.

The face paint was from picnic at the park... where we also were given these neat pencils, from the freelance star (the local news paper) The lady was like "made from recycled news paper"

| neat yes... except on closer inspection it has asian Phonics on it... i was pretty disappointed in this |

| yay, recycled paper pencils, that were imported from china :/ |
Baking was another Preschool Project( lay out all the ingredients in bowls and let your student mix it up) It turned out a little to sticky for cookies so we just made a cookie cake!! it was delicious!
Foil Mirrors, i didn't have any shells on hand (like it called for) so they used beans instead
Its really fun if i take the time the night before to Read through the lesson and make the necessary arrangements and gather materials and print out the work sheets.
I Have decided that my pre-preschooler, is a little to immature for the "Calvert" home school curriculum... he really likes doing it, 20% of the time. He doesn't want to participate in discussions and he doesn't pay attention to his readings, but he enjoys the coloring work sheets. So i am going to give Calvert, and all the planning and time that goes into it, up for now I'll give him worksheets out of a few books that i had for the older one at this age, and let him get his need to participate out on that and then he can run off and play... without me feeling like i have waisted my precious time on his lesson that he will not have.
As far as "life after home school" goes.... It is HARD
Trying to find the time and energy for things that i use to accomplish during our home school time slot is not coming easy. I knew it would take some adjusting too, but it is still a battle to stay on top of chores especially the ones that require my leaving the house.
And i should just give up on anything extra curricular for myself... i have some how managed to get supplies for a few projects of my own, but i have yet to find the time to even START them. It is so frustrating to think everyday, "today i will get to this" and then if by some slim chance i do have an extra 30 minutes (and the laundry is done, no cooking or dishes need to be done, the baby is asleep or otherwise occupied, and the house isn't a disaster) i am just so exhausted mentally and physically, that i want to just SIT DOWN.
Its a small price to pay, i suppose, to raise my children the way i see fit. I have started to let/make them help more and more around the house, and it is lightening the load a bit. But the bottom line is i love them and eventually it will be easier.
I cant wait!!!

You've been so productive! Will you use the pre-school stuff next year with him?
ReplyDeleteAaaand... the cookie cake looks delicious. I wish I had been there for that!
Yes, i think next year he will have a longer attention span, and i will feel less like i am forcing him to do things. The cookie cake WAS delicious, it tasted like chocolate chip blondies!!!
